Job Duties:

The Post holder will work as an integral part of the Specialist multidisciplinary team located in a dementia inpatient assessment facility. This facility is designed to meet the needs of people with dementia who require a period of specialised assessment and treatment for distressed behaviours which cannot be assessed, managed and treated effectively in a community setting.

This post will involve working on a day-to-day basis with adults who have severely impaired communication and / or swallowing due to Dementia. The post will require communicating and working closely and effectively with patients, carers, the dementia/ memory teams, and other professionals, demonstrating highly developed interpersonal skills including empathy, negotiation and counselling skills.

Qualifications / Experience:

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or qualification recognised by RCSLT.
Registered with the HCPC and RCSLT.
A Minimum of 4 years post-qualification clinical experience to include 2 years experience as a developing clinical specialist (Band 6) or equivalent in assessing and treating clients with dementia
.
Post graduate advanced clinical training and experience (MSc level or equivalent) to include
.
Specialist courses relevant to the diagnosis, prognosis and management of the client groups, eg. Postgraduate dysphagia training, Talking Mats, Intensive Interaction, Dementia care training, Advanced care planning.
Extensive relevant CPD
Experience in developing and delivering training programmes for other professionals.
Experience in staff and student supervision.
